George Lemmer and Margaret (Claus) Lemmer

George Lemmer (Jean George Lemmer) was born on Mar. 24, 1803 in Uhrwiller in the Alsacian region of France. Margaret Claus (Margaretha Claus) was born on Dec. 13, 1804 in the same village. They married on Mar. 5, 1831. With at least three young children in 1838 they emigrated to the United States. They lived in Ohio, first in Stark County and then in Knox County. In Knox County they were among the original members of a German Evangelical Lutheran church. Margaret died on June 30, 1880, and then George on Dec. 10, 1895 the death record stating the cause as LaGrippe. They were both buried at the Zion Lutheran Evangelical Cemetery in Knox County, Ohio.
George was the son of Jean George Lemmer and Marguerite Lang. Jean George the father emigrated with his son but died on the voyage and was buried at sea. Margaret's parents were Georg Claus and Margaretha Leonhard.
