Two old newspaper clippings that Aaron's Grandma had--


DEATH RECORD ISABELLA E. SHEELER Mrs. Isabella E. Sheeler, who has been hovering between life and death for several weeks, passed to the better world, Sunday, March 22, 1908 at 12:40 o'clock. With her death a life closed which has witnessed the development of this part of the country and was the last survivor who resided here before the Village of Vermont was laid out. Shew as the oldest resident at the time of her death. When her parents settled here their home stood where Mrs. Stephen Braun now lives, and the south east part of town was then included in their farm. The funeral was held from the family residence Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. D. T. Wilson and Eld. G. W. Ross, after which the remains were conveyed to the village cemetery where they were laid to rest. Isabella E. Crail was born in Campbell Co., Ky. Aug. 12, 1827 and died in Vermont, Ill. March 22, 1908, aged 80 years, 7 months and 10 days. While a child she with her parents came in the winter 1854, to Athens, Ill., and in the spring of 1835 to Fulton County. Here the family settled and laid out the village of Vermont. The deceased was the oldest resident of Vermont. Dec. 20, 1843 she was married to Godfrey Sheeler. To them were born four children, three now living: Nettie, Christopher, and Harmon. William died June 30, 1881. The Methodist Episcopal church of Vermont was organized in her fathers house. Peter Cartwright, Wm. Rutledge, Richard Haney and other pioneer preachers were entertained in this home and the deceased from childhood has lived a true Christian life. She was the youngest of her father's family and the last to join the ranks of the redeemed in Heaven. Another family of early settlers was the Joseph Crail family who came from Illinois in 1855. Their daughter Margaret was married April 13, 1856 to John H. Bowen and they were the first couple to be married in Coffey County. Their daughter Jennie, was the first white girl born in this county.
