Jesse Cook and Nancy (Linebarger) Cook
Jesse Cook was born on Feb. 14, 1800 in South Carolina. Nancy Linebarger was born on Jul. 6, 1805 in Lincoln County, North Carolina. Jesse lived in Ohio as a boy. They married in 1824 in Parke County, Indiana. They were among the first settlers in the early 1830s in the area where Joliet, Illinois is now. They later moved to Macoupin County, Illinois and then to Champaign County, Illinois, farming in both locations. They died there, he on Nov. 30, 1883, and she on Mar. 8, 1886. They went west with family during the gold rush and operated a boarding house in northern California for a brief time. They were Methodists.
