Document of Marriage of Pierre Lemmer Of legal age, born of a legitimate marriage, October 22, 1827 At Uhrwiller, on the Lower Rhine Resident of Strasbourg, formerly of Uhrwiller. Profession-Pensioner of the state (war veteran--having military decoration). Son of Jean George Lemmer, journeyman (day laborer), absent from home about 15 years and whose present address is unknown. And of Marguerite Lang, deceased at Uhrwiller in January 1848. And Sophie Caroline Allouette Of legal age, born of a legitimate marriage, February 11, 1834 at Strasbourg, residing at Strasbourg. Daughter of the late Joseph Charles Allouette, a miller, who died in Strasbourg Feb. 1, 1838. and of the late Marie Elizabeth Faetsch, who died in Strasbourg May, 13, 1849. The proclamations (bans) have been made in this townhall in the required forms and without any opposition, at noon, on the Sundays of the 10th and 17th of last February. Similar banns took place, without opposition, the 17th and 24th of the same month in the townhall of Uhrwiller. The bridegroom produced his birth certificate and the death certificate of his mother. The birth certificate of the bride and the death notices of her father and mother are written in the register of the civil registry in the city of Strasbourg. The bridegroom stated under oath that it is impossible to give further information about his father as he had been away from home for 15 years and that no one knew there he had gone. He said besides that that he could no produce the death certificates of his grandmother and grandfather, no knowing their last address. The bride declared as well, her banns were certified in the 4 weeks previous, and stated, under oath, that like the bridegroom she does not know the place of her ancestors and their last home. From these records and from all the requirements of the Napoleonic Code, the civil state officer made some remarks, in the terms of the law, the two spouses present having declared publicly, one after the other, that they wish to take each other for husband and wife, the civil officer of the state has pronounced in the name of the law, that Pierre Lemmer and Sophie Caroline Allouette are united in marriage. We have then questioned the future newlyweds as well as the people who authorize the marriage to declare if a marriage contract has been made. It has been answered that the marriage contract would no be broken (till death do us part). All this in the presence of 4 witnesses, so designated, to wit: George Marckwalter, age 68 yearspunch here to see original record
